Obama and Romney should just have a cow-milking contest and call it a day.

U.S. Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, on Wednesday evening, competed against Republican state Assembly candidate Dan Stec in the cow-milking contest at the Essex County Fair. Both politicians said it was a tie.

And on Friday, Republican congressional candidate Matt Doheny worked his way into the wrestling ring with Glens Falls Mayor John “Jack the Knife” Diamond, a Democrat, and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, a Glens Falls native who returned to his hometown to headline the World of Hurt Wrestling event.

Rumor had it that Diamond, a huge Owens supporter, was going to throw Doheny out of the ring, but that aspect did not materialize.

Diamond proclaimed Friday to be, “Chief and Hacksaw Jim Duggan Day,” in honor of Duggan and his father, former Glens Falls Police Chief James Duggan Sr.

Doheny led the crowd in chanting, “U.S.A., U.S.A., U.S.A.”

Meanwhile, back at the fair, Stec said it was his first time milking a cow.

“They had Bill come up, and I said, ‘Fine, I’ll go second.’ And they said, ‘No, we run them two at a time,’” Stec said in a telephone interview on Friday.

“The funny thing is, and I noticed this after when I saw the pictures. I’m wearing a red polo shirt and I was on the right side of the cow. His polo shirt has a lot of blue on it, and he was on the left side of the cow.”
